These popular five-week courses introduce primary school aged children to art in its many forms, from observational drawing and painting to abstract approaches, and applied arts such as illustration and design. Tailored to the children's developmental stage, the classes cover technical skills such as chiaroscuro, perspective, mark making, colour mixing and a variety of painting and print techniques.
The children are also introduced to the work of a variety of artists - famous and local, historic and contemporary - and are encouraged to articulate their responses to it. By looking at others artists' work, we learn that rules are made to be challenged, and that the most celebrated artists are those who have fully embraced their own unique style.
The focus is on enjoying the process of creating art rather than pursuing 'perfection', which creates a sociable and supportive atmosphere in which the children are able to relax, experiment and explore.
All high quality materials and equipment, as well as refreshments are included in the price.
The cost is £60 for each five-week block, payable in advance.
