At Pencil to Paint, the children learn to draw with increasing accuracy and confidence, and then translate those drawings into paintings.

 

Drawing is the foundation. We spend time looking carefully, noticing tone, and building form. Once a drawing is established, we explore how it shifts and develops through paint.

The children become familiar with the practical handling of oil, watercolour, acrylic and pastel.  Alongside this, we develop core technical skills: tonal value, colour mixing, perspective, composition and mark making. These are taught in context, through sustained projects, so that skills build logically from week to week.

The children are also introduced to the work of a range of artists, both historic and contemporary.
